“Derrick usually gains the trust of her subjects, enabling her to capture ‘the decisive moment’
made famous by legendary photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson.
She captures the essence of individuals with respect, care and consideration”.
Veronica Wilkinson, Weekend Argus, Feb.  2008.

“Derrick and her camera manage to capture blood-and-soul beings – the family - whose dignity lights up at the click of her shutter.
Here the narrative is unique and vital - it is the bonds between people that count”.
Melvyn Minnaar, Cape Times, 2007.

Documentaries

‘Eye Inside’ Malmesbury women’s prison.  “Fuck dem cops” 2005.
Evelyn – 21 years old, convicted of murder, sentenced to 8 years.
Been in prison since she was 14 years old, when she committed her contract killing.

"An acclaimed 'portrait documentalist', Derrick has spent her career probing and portraying
specific South African social issues. She is the one person who has brought to life the individuals and
personalities in her work. Others have flashed their cameras at "the people," but few have given them
a "voice," or reflected the human realities on the ground so truthfully."
Melvyn Minnaar, The World of Fine Wine, Issue 10, 2006. U.K.
